  • The Overview of The Application of Borescopes

    There are all kinds of applications of borescopes which approximately include the inspection of aircraft, motors, electricity, industrial machinery, construction and pipeline/drain/sewer. And we will explain more in the following. First of all, in terms of the inspection of aircraft and airframe, borescopes have a role to play. It is because a regular inspection of turbine blades is extremely important to aircraft. To be more precise, maintaining the reliability of the aircraft gas turbine, repairing the wear of components, and examining the contaminated fluids and leaks are what the borescopes can do for us. Secondly, a borescope can also inspect motors, such as engine combustion chambers including some parts as follows, valves, cylinder heads, piston crowns, liners, and water pump weep holes. What’s more, borescopes can also inspect whether water pumps weep holes for coolant leaks and check fuel lines and tanks. Thirdly, borescopes can do more than that, and that is the inspection and maintenance of electricity. For example, the maintenance of nuclear power, water, wind, fire stations of pipelines/turbines and generators are the other applications of borescopes. 

     

    On top of that, borescopes can also be used in the inspection of industrial machinery to check the mechanical equipment and manufacturing equipment, surplus material inspection, big generators, heat exchanger. To be honest, the application of borescopes is a perpetual topic. Last but not least, borescopes are widely used in the inspection of construction and pipeline/drain / sewer. In terms of the inspection of construction, steel tubes can not only be used to examine corrosion and fouling, wall and another internal diagnosis, steel rust, bridge expansion joint cracking, etc. but also can be used for tunnel lumen, observation of building models. As for the inspection of pipeline/drain/sewer, borescopes can help check the corrosion and diagnose the blocking drains. Peculiarly, cracks, white spots, sand holes, pores, and slag on the surface of pipeline and welding seam can be checked through borescopes.


    There many advantage that articulating video borescopes offer.

    Most NDT applications have small, limited entrance that open into a much larger space. That is why having an articulating borescope is good for completing internal inspection without missing dead corner.

    However, not all applications require articulation. Some inspection applications have narrow diameters through the whole internal chambers, leaving little to no room for articulation. The most common of these applications is a gun barrel inspection, where a straight probe would be a more capable tool (even cost effective tool) to finish the job.

    When using remote video borescope to internal cracks, articulation is vital to guaranteeing that the full internal surface area is carefully examined.


    Like riding a scooter without being able to swing your head right to left, to head down and check your speed meter, or up to mind traffic signs. That similarity is alike to using a non-articulating borescope to examine internal parts. Inspections done with non-articulating borescopes can lead to many details being ignored, some of which can cause unsafe or risk situations.
